Frequently Asked Questions

We will try to post answers here to frequently-asked questions about this site. Below are also links to useful FAQ's. Do you have a burning question about our site? Please send it to apcs@gwu.edu.

  • Site FAQ:
    • What is the purpose of this site?
The main purpose is to provide a resource for high-school computer science teachers. The current focus is on helping with the transition to Java that most schools are faced with. We also plan to add sections on special topics such as "Gender balance in CS", "Project ideas" and so on. Another goal of the site is to help CS teachers connect with each other. Accordingly, we have used PHPBB, a PHP-based bulletin board to create an on-line bulletin board that teachers can use to communicate with each other, post questions, and post answers as well.
    • Who built this site?
Prof. Rahul Simha in GW's Department of Computer Science, with help from students Erin Briska (webmeister, site-designer), and Anand Hemraj (some of the Java applet examples). We welcome contributions from others.
    • Why is there a separate "student" site?
The student site will be primarily aimed at students wanting to know more about computer science. As such, the language used will be, er, more appealing to students. Also, teachers might want to discuss and post material on sensitive issues that they would prefer be accessible to teachers only.
    • How can I contribute?
At this time, we are looking for classroom materials that other teachers can use. If you have posted some on a webpage (ideally, with a description of how you are using the materials), send us a link or send us the material itself in some electronic form. Please bear with us if we appear to take time to post the material. This is an entirely voluntary effort.
